Aston Achievement Scholarship / Excellence Scholarship

Benefit

You get a one-off 500 GBP (about 575 EUR) in your first year at Aston University in Birmingham. It comes in two payments of 250 GBP into your bank account during terms two and three. This is a merit award from Aston University: you earn it through strong exam results, with no separate application. An older overview for earlier years mentioned a larger Excellence Scholarship worth up to 3,000 GBP (about 3,450 EUR) across all study years. The binding rules for 2024-25 entry set the amount at 500 GBP in year one only.

Eligibility

• University: You start a full-time undergraduate degree at Aston University.
• Fee status: You are a Home (UK) student who gets UK student support funding, and no external sponsor pays your tuition.
• Grades: You get at least BBB at A-level, or an equivalent (for example Distinction, Distinction, Distinction in a BTEC Extended Diploma, or 31 points with three 5s at Higher Level in the International Baccalaureate).
• Income group: This award is for students not in a widening-participation group. If your household income is below 42,875 GBP, or you received a contextual offer, a different Aston scholarship applies to you instead.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Study stage: You are not repeating a year and owe no fees to the university.

How to apply

There is no separate application. Aston University checks your UCAS results automatically. You just need your qualification results confirmed by mid-October of your entry year. You are told the outcome through the My Aston Portal, normally by 30 November.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is automatic and based on hitting a clear grade threshold, so there is no competition for a limited number of places. If you meet the BBB requirement and the fee and income conditions, you qualify. Note that this scholarship was not listed in Aston's rules for 2025-26 entry, so check the current funding page before you count on it.
