About this scholarship
George Christopher Davie Masonic Scholarship
You will receive up to about 116 EUR per year (£100) for a bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Exeter, either at the Exeter campus or the Penryn campus. The scholarship is initially awarded for one year. You may renew it each year for the standard duration of your degree programme, provided you make good academic progress and funding is available. The University of Exeter awards this scholarship, which is reserved for the children of a Freemason from Devon.
Who can apply
- University: You have received an offer of a place on a foundation degree programme at the University of Exeter via UCAS.
- Where you live: You live in Cornwall or Devon.
- Family link: Your parent is a Freemason in Devon (a member of a Masonic lodge, a local branch of Freemasonry). He was living in Devon when he joined his lodge. Furthermore, he has paid his membership fees and has lived in Devon for at least 5 consecutive years in the 2 years prior to your application.
- Field of study: All compartments are open.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they meet the requirements regarding residence and marital status.
How to apply
Please send your application, together with proof of your residence and your parents’ membership of the lodge, to the Scholarship Officer at the University of Exeter’s Admissions Office. The application deadline was 18 September. Decisions will be made on the basis of these criteria, as well as your UCAS application and your A-level results.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is granted to only a very small number of applicants. You need to have a parent who has been a Freemason in Devon for a long time, your own residence in Cornwall or Devon, and a place at Exeter – so very few people are eligible. If you meet all three conditions and can provide evidence of them, the small number of applicants works in your favour. The amount is modest, totalling around 116 euros per year.
