About this scholarship
What you got
Note: this programme has ended. The state-funded National Scholarship Programme (NSP) was closed to new students after the 2014–15 academic year, and no state funding has been available since 2015.
During its term, the NSP provided first-year students from low-income households with up to approximately 2,300 EUR per year (roughly 2,000 GBP) for three years. At Staffordshire University, this support consisted of subsidised accommodation or a grant towards travel and living costs (around 1,700 GBP per year), as well as a cash payment of 300 GBP in each of the three years. The funds came from the UK government and were matched by the university with at least the same amount.
Eligibility
- Study level: You were a first-year student at Staffordshire University.
- Where you study: A state-funded English university, and you were considered a home student.
- Household income: Your household’s income was less than 25,000 GBP per year.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Enrolment: Full-time or part-time, with working hours of at least 25%. Part-time employees received a pro rata amount.
How to apply
Meeting the income threshold was no guarantee of approval. The university selected recipients in accordance with national regulations, meaning that one could not simply claim the grant simply because one met the eligibility criteria.
