About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a one-off payment of 2,500 EUR for a full academic year or 1,250 euros if you are studying for just one semester. The amount will be paid in a single bank transfer. It is intended to help you cover your rent if you can no longer live with your parents whilst studying. It is provided by the Regional Government of Extremadura (Junta de Extremadura) and supplements the state study grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education. The total budget for this round of funding is 800,000 EUR. If too many people meet the eligibility criteria, the amount will be reduced proportionally, so you will not simply be rejected.
Who can apply
- Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree (título de Grado).
- Where you study: You are studying at the University of Extremadura. You may only study at another public Spanish university if that university does not offer your degree programme or if you have not achieved the required minimum mark for it. A degree in social work obtained at another higher education institution is always recognised.
- Residence: If you are studying outside the University of Extremadura, you and your parents must be officially registered as residents in Extremadura.
- Living away from home: You are renting a room or a flat in the town where you are studying; it is not your parents’ home, and you can provide proof of the rent amount.
- Course load: You are enrolled for at least 60 ECTS credits on the on-campus programme. If you need fewer credits to complete your degree, you must take all of these credits.
- National grant result: The Ministry has either granted you only the portion of the state grant that covers your tuition fees (with or without a supplement for outstanding academic achievement), or has refused to award the grant solely on the grounds that your family’s assets were too high.
- Grades (if refused over assets): If your application for a state grant has been rejected solely on the basis of your family’s financial circumstances, you will need a grade point average of at least 8.00. Adjustment factors apply to the fields of engineering and architecture (1.17), natural sciences (1.11) and health sciences (1.05).
- Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.
- No double funding: You will not receive any further funding for the same purpose.
How to apply
Please complete the application form at becasuniversidad.educarex.es and submit it via an official registry office. For 2025/2026, the application period runs from 29 January to 6 April 2026. There will be no interview. An examination board will make its decision solely on the basis of your application documents.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding is aimed at a narrowly defined group. You must live in Extremadura or be studying at a university there, not be living with your parents and be able to provide proof of this through a tenancy agreement, and you must already have received a specific outcome from your application for a government scholarship. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these conditions, your chances are good. The rules also protect you, as a tight budget is more likely to result in a proportional reduction rather than outright rejection.
