French-Dutch Network - Amsterdam Prize

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of 15,000 EUR to spend an academic year in the Netherlands, where you will work on a research project about the country. The Réseau Franco-Néerlandais will also cover the cost of your train ticket (2 class) for the return journey between France and the Netherlands. The prize is awarded every two years by the Dutch Embassy in France in collaboration with the Réseau Franco-Néerlandais. The winner will receive it from the Dutch Ambassador at a reception in Paris.

Eligibility

• Nationality: You are a French citizen.
• Degree: You are a student or have recently completed your degree and are currently preparing a Master’s or PhD thesis. It does not matter whether you are studying at a French or a foreign university.
• Field of study: You are studying a subject in the humanities or social sciences, such as history, art history, literature, languages, political science, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, law, economics, journalism, geography, urban planning, architecture, art, psychology or education.
• Research topic: Your final-year dissertation or research project focuses on the Netherlands. If you are comparing the Netherlands with other countries, the section on the Netherlands must be substantial enough to justify a one-year stay there.
• Plan: You are planning to spend an academic year at a Dutch university.

How to apply

Please submit your application by 1 May as a single PDF document. A selection panel will review the applications and then conduct interviews with all shortlisted candidates before making its final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize has very strict eligibility criteria: only French students whose research focuses explicitly on the Netherlands are eligible to apply, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you fit this profile and can present a compelling, original project based on sound academic research, your chances are good. As the prize is awarded only every two years, it is important to time your application to coincide with an open call for applications.
