SFD grant for dermatological research

You will receive a grant of 300,000 EUR budget per round to carry out a research project in the field of dermatology, that is, the study of the skin and its diseases. This funding is a one-off grant for a project, not a monthly payment. The Société Française de Dermatologie (SFD), France’s national dermatological society, awards these grants twice a year and may support one or more projects on each occasion. Your project must focus on a skin condition in humans. It may relate to diagnosis, screening or prevention, treatment studies, epidemiology, care strategies, disease mechanisms, the humanities and social sciences applied to dermatology, artificial intelligence in dermatology or skin imaging.

Who can apply

• Your project: You are leading a research project into a skin condition in humans.
• Team setup: Both single-centre and multicentre projects are eligible, meaning that both hospital and university teams may apply.
• Open widely: You do not need to be a practising dermatologist. The SFD has a separate call for applications for this professional group; this one is aimed at a wider audience.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The research will be carried out in France.
• Field: Your topic must be in the field of dermatology, but a wide range of study types are eligible – from clinical trials to AI and imaging.

How to apply

You submit your project online via the SFD website. For the September round, the submission period begins on 1 September and ends on 15 September 2026. There is also a March round. The SFD’s Scientific Advisory Board reviews and assesses the projects using a standardised assessment grid.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a research grant, not a student scholarship; you will therefore need a serious project and a team behind it. The grant amount of 300,000 euros per round is substantial and is sufficient to fund several projects, which is an advantage. Nevertheless, you will be competing on the basis of scientific quality with experienced researchers in the field of dermatology. A well-designed project with a clear clinical research question and the support of a hospital or research centre has a genuine chance of success.
