About this grant / loan

What you get

If you are studying at HENALLUX (Haute Ecole de Namur-Liège-Luxembourg) in Belgium and find yourself in financial difficulties, the university’s social services team will provide you with direct assistance. The support will be arranged during a confidential one-to-one meeting and may take various forms:

  • A loan that you will repay later.
  • A grant that you can keep and do not have to pay back.
  • A reduced enrolment fee (minerval, the tuition fees you pay to a Belgian higher education institution).
  • Additional financial support towards the costs of a stay abroad.
  • A contribution towards your course materials. If you receive a study grant, you get an automatic 100 EUR advance for materials plus a refund of anything above that. If you use the school's own aid without a grant, the social council adds 50 EUR once your bill tops 100 EUR.

As well as financial support, the team also offers you social and psychological support.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are registered with HENALLUX.
  • Financial need: You are in a difficult financial situation and can provide documentary evidence of this. The social worker will let you know at your appointment which documents are required.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
  • Reduced fee: For the reduced enrolment fee, your income may go up to 4,298 EUR (2023-2024 figure) above the study-grant limit, depending on how many people depend on you. You do not need to have applied for a study grant first.

How to apply

Please contact one of the school social workers to arrange a confidential one-to-one appointment. There, you will compile your paperwork and be given a list of the required documents. You can apply from 13 September throughout the year. Submit your application by 31 January to receive the full amount, as the grant is reduced after this date. The deadline for the reduced enrolment fee is 5 May of the current academic year.
