Cultural Agreements scholarship (Cultureel Verdragbeurzen)

You get a grant to study or do research abroad for a limited time, in a country that has a cultural cooperation agreement with the Netherlands. Some countries also fund summer language courses. The amount and length depend on the partner country. Every country sets its own conditions, sums and options, so there is no single fixed rate. The money comes from the foreign partner government, and Nuffic, the Dutch organisation for international education, runs the scholarships. This grant is for study and research only, not for internships, exchange or credit-mobility programmes.

Who can apply

• Where you study now: You are enrolled at a Dutch university or college.
• Study phase: You are in the final year of your bachelor's or master's, have just graduated, or are a PhD student.
• Nationality: You are a Dutch national, or you receive Dutch student finance (studiefinanciering).
• Age: You are 35 or under when the programme starts. PhD students have no age limit.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects and all faculties.
• Where you go: A partner country such as Switzerland, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Poland, Czechia, Israel or Mexico. Nuffic arranges places for over 20 countries. You cannot use the grant to go to your own country of origin.
• No double funding: You do not hold an Erasmus+ scholarship at the same time.
• Limit: You can receive this scholarship at most twice.

How to apply

You apply through Nuffic on the WilWeg.nl platform (in Dutch). The deadline and the exact procedure depend on the country you choose. For some countries, Nuffic handles the application itself.

How realistic are your chances?

The pool is limited from the start. You must study in the Netherlands, be Dutch or on Dutch student finance, be in a specific study phase and be under 35. Beyond that, each partner country picks its own students and sets its own terms, so your real chances vary a lot by destination. If you clearly meet the general rules, target a country with an active agreement, and check its deadline early, your prospects are reasonable.
