What the TU/e Studentenondersteuningsfonds gives you

If you fall behind in your studies because of personal circumstances, you get a grant for each recognised delayed month that you never have to pay back. The size depends on your background and your degree. If you qualify for Dutch student finance (mainly students from the EU/EEA), you receive 389.83 EUR per delayed month. On top of that you get 69% of your DUO supplementary grant if you were entitled to one (DUO is the Dutch student finance agency). If you are a non-EEA student who pays tuition, the monthly amount is much higher, roughly 1,715 EUR (Bachelor) to 1,974 EUR (Master) per recognised month, because it also covers the tuition you keep paying during the delay. The fund is run by the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) for its own students. It used to be called the Profileringsfonds. A second track, the board grant (bestuursbeurs), pays students who serve on the board of a recognised student association in Eindhoven.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at TU/e as a full-time or dual student, and this is your main registration.
• The reason for the delay: You lost study time through a recognised circumstance, for example illness, a disability, pregnancy (max. 4 months), caring for family, a board or student-council role, national-level top sport or culture, or your programme losing its accreditation.
• Report it in time: You told your study advisor or student dean about the circumstances within 2 months of them starting.
• Timing: The delay happens within your "prestatiebeurs" period. This equals the normal length of your Bachelor plus Master, so 5 years (shorter if you already used Dutch student finance before).
• Student finance link: You are entitled (or would have been entitled) to Dutch student finance, or you are an international student who cannot claim it.
• Nationality: Dutch and international students can both apply.
• Age (international students only): If you are an international student without a DUO entitlement, you cannot claim after turning 30.
• No double funding: You cannot draw DUO and this fund for the same circumstance at the same time.

How to apply

First report your circumstances to your study advisor or student dean within 2 months. Then book a meeting with the student dean, which counts as the start of your claim. After that you submit the digital application form through OSIRIS with your supporting documents, and the dean decides within 8 weeks. For a board grant, associations report eligible members by 15 March, and the application must be in before 1 May.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship you win against other applicants. It is support for a defined problem. If you are a TU/e student who genuinely lost study time to a recognised circumstance, can document it and reported it on time, you receive it. Your prospects hinge almost entirely on meeting the deadlines and having proper proof, so report early and keep the paperwork.
