BSD study grant (HBO)

You get a one-off payment of up to 1,000 EUR for extra activities linked to animal nutrition, on top of your regular studies. You also get a one-year subscription to the trade magazine De Molenaar. You can spend the money on things like short courses on pig and poultry feeding, animal-nutrition symposia and congresses at home or abroad, a graduation project on animal nutrition, or a summer course in the field. The grant comes from Stichting BSD, a foundation set up by the Dutch animal-feed industry to bring students into the sector.

Who can apply

• University: You study at a Dutch agricultural university of applied sciences (HBO), such as HAS green academy, Aeres Hogeschool Dronten, or Van Hall Larenstein in Leeuwarden or Velp.
• Field of study: You take, or plan to take, a graduation specialisation in animal nutrition (diervoeding).
• Career goal: You want to work in the animal-feed sector, or to move on to a Master in Animal Science at Wageningen University (WUR).
• Your plan for the money: You can name a concrete activity, for example a course or symposium, and explain how it helps your career in feed. The more specific your plan, the better.

How to apply

You apply by email to Stichting BSD. You send the registration form, your CV, a copy of your grades, and a motivation letter. For the 2026-2027 year, you can apply from 4 May to 4 September 2026, and awards are decided on 7 October 2026. Selection is based on your documents only, with no interview, so the motivation letter carries a lot of weight.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly. You must study animal nutrition at a Dutch agricultural HBO and aim for a career in the feed sector, so the eligible group is small. If you clearly fit that profile and write a specific motivation letter naming the exact course, symposium or project you want to fund, your prospects are good. Because everything rides on your written application, a concrete, well-argued case is what decides it.
