EUR Emergency Fund

You get a one-off payment of around 500 EUR (you can apply for up to 1,000 EUR) to cover basic living costs when an unexpected crisis leaves you short. The money is meant for essentials like groceries, medication or travel within the Netherlands, not for tuition fees or study materials. It comes from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and is granted on the recommendation of a student dean. Depending on your situation, you may get it as a gift or as a loan you repay under conditions the dean sets.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam, in a Bachelor or Master programme.
• Type of hardship: Your money trouble is sudden, unusual and temporary. For example, a war or natural disaster in your home country, or another acute personal emergency that leaves you unable to support yourself right now.
• Recovery: After this one-off help, you can cover your own living costs again. It is not ongoing support.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

Fill in the online form on the EUR Emergency Fund page and attach documents that show your situation. There is no deadline; the form is open all year. A student dean (a university staff member who advises students in difficult situations) reviews your case, and you get an answer by email within two weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This is emergency help, not a competitive scholarship. There is no fixed number of places and no ranking against other students. What matters is whether your case fits: your hardship must be genuinely sudden, temporary and beyond your control, and you need to show it clearly. If you meet those conditions and document them well, your chances of getting help are good.
