Candriam Scholarship at Maastricht University

You get a full funding package for a one-year Master's programme at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) in Maastricht. Your tuition of 2,694 EUR for the year is paid directly. You also get a one-off 606 EUR for study materials at the start, plus 975 EUR per month living allowance for all 12 months. The Scholarship Office handles the money, so you never advance the fees yourself. The award is funded by Candriam, a European asset manager focused on sustainable investing, together with the SBE faculty.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are applying to one of six eligible one-year full-time Master's programmes at the SBE: Sustainability Science, Policy and Society; International Business - Sustainable Finance; International Business - Entrepreneurship & Business Development; Economics and Strategy in Emerging Markets; Econometrics and Operations Research; or Digital Business and Economics.
• Admission: You meet the normal entry requirements of that Master's and have submitted a complete admission application by the deadline.
• Nationality: You hold the nationality of an EU/EEA country, Switzerland or Surinam.
• First in your family: You are a first-generation student, meaning neither of your parents completed a degree at a university or a university of applied sciences.
• One shot: You may submit only one scholarship application, and you cannot add or replace documents after sending it.

How to apply

First apply for admission to your chosen Master's through Studielink and My UM by 1 May 2026 for the 2026-2027 year. Then submit a separate scholarship application in English. You need your CV, a motivation letter written specifically for the Candriam Scholarship, and one reference letter from a school or employer in your home country. Generic motivation letters are rejected. Candriam and the faculty decide together, and results are announced at the end of July 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. Only first-generation students from the EU/EEA, Switzerland or Surinam applying to one of six specific SBE Master's programmes qualify, which keeps the applicant pool small. The selection leans heavily on your motivation letter and reference, so a letter tailored to this exact scholarship matters more than a polished but generic one. If you clearly meet the first-generation and nationality conditions and make a specific case, your prospects are solid.
