ASML Technology Scholarship

You receive 5,000 EUR per academic year for both years of a two-year technical master's degree, so 10,000 EUR in total. You also get a personal ASML mentor (an experienced professional who guides you) and a two-year development programme with 11 training sessions in all. That means six full days a year at ASML's headquarters in Veldhoven, covering personal leadership, communication and teamwork, plus career training in the second year to prepare you for working life. On top of this you run a 'technology ambassador project', sharing your enthusiasm for science with a group of your choice. That could be guest lectures at schools, videos on scientific topics, or helping underprivileged children with a technology project. The scholarship comes from ASML, a leading semiconductor technology company, and up to 40 are awarded each cycle. Note that this is a partial scholarship and does not cover full tuition.

Who can apply

• Degree: You start a two-year technical master's at a Dutch university, and have recently finished (or almost finished) your bachelor's at any university.
• Field of study: Your master's must be in a technical subject such as artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics, physics and astronomy, electrical, mechanical or aerospace engineering, materials science or nanotechnology. At Radboud University the eligible programmes are Artificial Intelligence, Computing Science, Mathematics, Molecular Sciences, and Physics and Astronomy.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities, both EU and non-EU.
• Grades: You have an average grade of at least 7.00 on the Dutch 10-point scale.
• Engagement: You take part in extracurricular activities that show drive and a wish to develop yourself.
• Selection day: You can attend one of the two selection days in person at ASML in Veldhoven. Travel costs are not reimbursed.

How to apply

You apply online through ASML with a CV that includes your contact details and grade average. If you get through the first round, you record a short video cover letter. Selected candidates are then invited to one of two mandatory selection days in Veldhoven. You hear back within two weeks of the selection days.

How realistic are your chances?

The field is narrow: only technical master's students in the Netherlands who fit the listed subjects and clear the 7.00 grade bar compete. With up to 40 awards per cycle, the pool is manageable rather than huge. If you meet the subject and grade requirements, can show genuine extracurricular engagement, and can travel to Veldhoven for a selection day, your prospects are solid.
