Financial help for the School voor Jong Talent

If your family cannot cover the cost of the School voor Jong Talent (SvJT), the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague offers several funds that lower your bills. What you can get depends on which fund fits your situation:

• Cultuurfonds grant: Money towards your course fees, excursions and other study costs such as accommodation and travel. For reference, SvJT course fees for 2026/2027 are 2,446 EUR per year (internal) or 3,024 EUR per year (external).
• SvJT scholarship (Beurs): A grant set individually for each internal and external SvJT pupil.
• Instrument fund: An interest-free loan of up to 6,000 EUR for music pupils to buy an instrument.
• Clothing fund: Money towards ballet clothing for ballet pupils.
• DAMU travel allowance: Help with travel costs if your journey to school is more than 25 km one way and your parents' combined yearly income is at most 90,000 EUR.
• Talentenfonds Den Haag: A City of The Hague fund covering fees, materials, clothing and lessons. You qualify automatically if you live in The Hague and hold an Ooievaarspas, a discount card for low-income residents.

Who can apply

• School: You are a pupil at the School voor Jong Talent of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, or your parent applies for you.
• Age and level: You are roughly 10 to 18 years old, from primary school (group 7) up to the end of secondary school (vmbo-tl, havo or vwo).
• Field: You follow a music, dance or visual arts track.
• Financial need: Your parents cannot fully cover the cost of your place at the school. You prove this with an income statement (inkomensverklaring) from the tax authority for both parents.
• DAMU travel allowance only: You are in secondary school, enrolled in the internal dance or music pre-training, live more than 25 km from school, and your parents' combined income is at most 90,000 EUR per year.

How to apply

For the Cultuurfonds grant and the SvJT scholarship, you apply to the secretary and attach the tax authority income statements for both parents. The scholarship deadline is 1 November. The Cultuurfonds has four deadlines a year: 1 February, 1 April, 1 June and 1 November. You request the DAMU travel allowance between 15 August and 15 October.

How realistic are your chances?

These funds are open only to pupils already admitted to the School voor Jong Talent, a small and selective group, so few people compete for them. If you are enrolled, show genuine financial need with the income statements and apply by the fund's deadline, your prospects are good. Several separate funds exist, so more than one may apply to you.
