Mondriaan Fonds Interdisciplinair grant

You get a fixed grant to develop or make work that combines at least two art disciplines, for example fashion and digital fiction, film and literature, or theatre and visual art. There are two separate tracks. If you apply as an individual artist, you receive 24,900 EUR for 12 months to develop your interdisciplinary practice. If you apply as a cultural organisation, you get a fixed contribution towards one project: 12,500 EUR for a project with a total budget of 15,000 to 60,000 EUR, or 50,000 EUR for a project budgeted at 60,000 to 500,000 EUR. The Mondriaan Fonds runs the scheme together with five other Dutch national culture funds.

Who can apply

This depends on which track you use. For the individual grant:

• Your work: You have a professional practice that combines at least two art disciplines (such as visual art, architecture, design, digital culture, film, literature, music, music theatre, dance or theatre). Each discipline falls under a different national culture fund.
• Experience: You have at least 1 year of professional experience in this practice.
• Income: Your total taxable income during the funding year is 55,000 EUR or less.
• Not a full-time student: You are not doing a full-time bachelor's, master's, PhD or postdoctoral programme during the grant. A part-time course under 20 hours per week is fine, as long as it is not a bachelor's.
• Once only: You can receive this grant only once. After a rejection you must wait 12 months to reapply.

For the organisation grant:

• Legal form: You are a non-profit cultural organisation with legal personality, based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
• The project: At least two art disciplines are genuinely fused, not just placed side by side, and you show the result to an audience.
• New funding only: None of the six national culture funds has already supported the project, and it does not fit fully into another fund's scheme.
• Who cannot apply: Art-education or post-academic institutions and media companies.

How to apply

You apply through the Mondriaan Fonds online system, twice a year. The next deadline is 1 October 2026, before 16:00 (Netherlands time) or 10:00 (Caribbean time). Set up your account a few working days early. Your project must not have started before you apply, and you can expect a decision about 3 months after the deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

The scheme is narrowly aimed at artists and organisations whose work truly crosses discipline boundaries, so the eligible pool is smaller than for open arts grants. If your practice or project clearly combines two disciplines from different funds, meets the income or budget limits, and has not been funded elsewhere, your prospects are solid. Budgets are capped and applications are ranked by score when funds run short, so a strong, well-documented case matters.
