What the summer course scholarship offers

You will be offered a free place on the summer intensive course at the School of Modern Greek Language, run by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Greece. You will not have to pay any course fees. The course runs for around four to six weeks in the summer, roughly from the end of June to the end of July, and covers the Greek language and culture. AUTh runs the programme in collaboration with partner universities abroad. A total of 15 places are available, distributed amongst these partners.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying at a foreign university that has a cooperation agreement with AUTh. Partners include, amongst others, the University of Paul Valéry Montpellier III (France), the University of Leipzig (Germany) and Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), as well as 188 other institutions worldwide.
• Degree level: You are a Bachelor’s or Master’s student.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities may apply, provided their home university is a partner of AUTh.
• Subject: You are interested in the Greek language and culture.

How to apply

You cannot apply directly to AUTh. Your own university selects the candidates and forwards their names to AUTh. Partner universities are informed of the available places every February. You should therefore check with the International Office at your home university to find out how the nomination process works.

How realistic are your chances?

The number of places is limited. As nearly 190 partner universities are sharing just 15 places, most universities are allocated only one to five places, and your own university decides whom to nominate. If you are studying at a partner university, are interested in Greek and contact your International Office at an early stage, your chances will depend more on this internal selection process than on a large, open selection process.
