About this scholarship

Erasmus+ traineeship abroad at the Agricultural University of Athens

You get an Erasmus+ monthly grant for a work placement abroad, paid for the whole time you are away. The amount follows EU rules set by Greece's national Erasmus agency (IKY) and depends on your destination country, so there is no fixed figure. You get 80% once your grant agreement is signed, before you leave, and the final 20% after you return and finish your tasks. You keep any national grants or student loans on top. The placement lasts 2 to 4 months for bachelor's and master's students. PhD students can do a shorter placement of 5 to 30 days. You find your own host: a company, research institute, public body, NGO or international organisation in an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia or an overseas territory. The placement counts fully towards your degree and goes on your Transcript of Records.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled on a standard degree programme at the Agricultural University of Athens.
  • Study level: You are a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral student.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Study progress: As a Bachelor’s student, you have completed your first year of study and passed two-thirds of your exams. As a Master’s student, you have completed your first semester.
  • Nationality: You are a national of an Erasmus+ country or are enrolled on a standard AUA degree programme.
  • Language: You have a command of English at level B2 (upper intermediate) or higher.
  • Where you go: Any eligible host organisation is eligible, with the exception of EU institutions and national Erasmus+ agencies.

How to apply

First find a host yourself. Then submit your application to the AUA Office for European Programmes. Placements run year-round, so there is no fixed deadline, but you must start at least 2 months before you want to leave. You also take an online language test before the placement begins.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award, but a structured grant. If you are an AUA student who meets the requirements regarding academic progress and English language proficiency (B2) and have found a host organisation, you can expect to receive funding. The main responsibility lies with you: find a suitable placement and start the paperwork well in advance. If you begin at least two months in advance, your chances are good.
