Letterstedtska föreningen travel grants

You will receive a one-off travel grant of 5,000 to 10,000 SEK (up to about 900 EUR) for a study trip to another Nordic country. You may use this grant for a conference, a research visit or an academic exchange. The ‘Letterstedtska’ association, which was founded in 1875 to strengthen cooperation between Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland, is providing 920,000 SEK for these grants in 2026.

Who can apply

• Who: You are applying as an individual, not as an organisation.
• Where you are from: You come from one of the five Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland or Iceland.
• Where you go: Your trip takes you to another Nordic country. Travel within your own country is not eligible for funding.
• Level: The scholarships are primarily intended for research stays (at PhD level or above), although applications from undergraduates will also be considered.
• Field of study: All cupboards are open.
• Timing: Your trip must not have taken place at the time of application.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the association’s website through your country’s national section. Please write in a Scandinavian language where possible; English is also accepted. There are two rounds per year: from 15 January to 15 February and from 15 August to 15 September. Decisions are made in June and December 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a narrowly defined target group: you must be from a Nordic country and be travelling to another. This means that applicants are limited to Nordic students and researchers who have a specific trip planned. With 920,000 SEK, distributed across grants ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 SEK, numerous trips can be funded each year. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and apply with a clearly defined trip that has not yet taken place, your chances are good.
