About this scholarship

Schönen'sche Lehensstiftung scholarship

You will receive up to 500 EUR per year, normally for 3 years. If your course is shorter, the grant will instead run for 2 years or 1 years. The foundation awards four scholarships of equal value each year. It was established in 1480 to help students who are unable to fully fund their studies, and is administered by the town of Pattensen. If you have already received a three-year scholarship, you may reapply for each subsequent year.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at a German university or university of applied sciences.
  • Field of study: Open to students from all disciplines. Theology students are preferred, but this is not a requirement.
  • Religion: You are a member of a Christian church and can provide proof of your membership.
  • Financial need: You are unable to cover the costs of your studies yourself.
  • Priority if more apply: If several people meet the eligibility criteria, priority will be given to applicants in the following order: applicants with the right of residence in Pattensen, children of local authority staff, the better-qualified applicants and the older applicants.

How to apply

Please complete the application form on the town’s website and send it, together with the required documents, to Pattensen Town Council. You can apply every year from 15 April to 15 May. The application deadline is 15 May. The foundation’s board will make its decision at the end of the year and will notify all applicants in writing.

How realistic are your chances?

Only four scholarships are awarded each year, so there are very few places available. However, the eligibility criteria are also quite strict: you must be a member of a Christian church and be able to demonstrate financial hardship; priority is given to theology students and those with links to Pattensen. If you clearly fit this profile, particularly if you have a local connection, your chances are good.
