Generation Google Scholarship (women in computer science, EMEA)

You get a one-off payment of 7,000 EUR (or the local equivalent) for the 2025-2026 study year. The money covers tuition and mandatory fees, books, learning materials and the equipment you need for your degree. You cannot use it for accommodation or food. If your university charges no tuition because it is publicly funded, you can still apply to cover your other mandatory study costs. Google.org funds the scholarship, and the Institute of International Education (IIE) runs it. The aim is to support women studying computer science and help them into leadership roles in tech.

Who can apply

• Gender: You identify as female.
• Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor's degree. Master's and PhD students cannot apply.
• Enrolment now: You are a full-time student at an accredited university in the 2024-2025 year.
• Enrolment next year: You are enrolled or admitted as a full-time student for 2025-2026.
• Where you study: Your university is in Europe, the Middle East or Africa (EMEA). This depends on where your university is, not your nationality or where you live, so all nationalities can apply.
• Field of study: You study computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical subject.
• Leadership: You can show leadership skills.
• Grades: You have strong academic results.
• Financial need: You can show that you need financial support.
• Not already funded: You have not received an earlier Google scholarship, and you are not the child of a Google employee.

How to apply

You apply online through the IIE portal. You upload a CV and your academic transcript and answer short essay questions. You also need two references, but not from family members. The deadline is 14 August 2025, with reference letters due by 18 August 2025 (both at 23:59 US Pacific Time). Only the first 1,250 eligible applications are accepted. IIE emails all applicants the result in mid-October 2025.

How realistic are your chances?

The award targets women in computer science across a wide EMEA region, so it draws a large field, and only the first 1,250 eligible applications are considered. Leadership, grades and financial need are weighed together, so a clear leadership record on top of good results is what sets applicants apart. Applications close once the cap is reached, so applying early matters.
