About this scholarship
What you get
You get a one-off grant of roughly 800 to 2,500 EUR to cover the extra costs of studying with a disability. In 2019 the average grant was about 1,500 EUR. The money comes from 100% Handinamique (formerly FEDEEH), a national student organisation funded together with company partners. It pays for things like a computer, a braille display, spell-checking software, a wheelchair-accessible flat, medical costs or a sign-language interpreter for oral exams. It does not cover your school or university enrolment fees.
Who can apply
- Disability: You have a disability and can prove it, for example with a disability certificate or medical proof.
- Age: You are under 35.
- Where you study: You study at a university or college in France, or you are in your final year of secondary school and plan to go on to higher education.
- Continuing studies: You will be studying in the coming academic year.
- Field of study: Any subject is fine.
- Attendance: You attend the award ceremony in person, unless you get written permission not to. Your travel and accommodation for that weekend are paid.
How to apply
You apply online through the Handinamique platform during the yearly window. Recent rounds ran in spring or in July, so check the current dates before you apply. A jury picks the winners, who are announced around October or November.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is narrowly targeted: you need a documented disability, you must be under 35 and you must study in France. That makes the applicant pool far smaller than for open scholarships. Not everyone succeeds, though. In 2019 about 97 of 287 applicants were funded. A clear request for one specific need gives you good prospects if you fit the criteria.
