About this scholarship

Postgraduate scholarships at Comillas Pontifical University

Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid cuts the cost of its own master's and postgraduate programmes through two tracks. The need-based Ayudas al Estudio waive 30% or 50% of your monthly tuition fees. The merit-based Becas de Excelencia waive 50% of both your enrolment fee and your monthly tuition fees. The university says the most common overall discount is about 60% of the total study price, and around 1,582 students get support. The university's study-aid committee decides both tracks. Neither renews automatically, so you must reapply each year.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are admitted to or already enrolled in a postgraduate programme at Comillas itself. Courses at the "San Juan de Dios" nursing and physiotherapy school have their own separate scheme.
  • Programme length: Your course lasts at least 60 ECTS credits in one academic year, and you enrol for at least 60% of a normal course's credit load.
  • No existing master's: As a new applicant, you do not already hold a master's or other postgraduate qualification. Exceptions are possible in special cases.
  • Repeated subjects: You cannot get funding for courses you are repeating.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities. You can apply whether you live inside or outside Spain, but the documents you must hand in differ.
  • Financial need (Ayudas al Estudio only): Your family income stays under set limits, for example about EUR 19,536 for a one-person household and EUR 53,760 for four people, higher for larger families. Property and savings count too.
  • Merit (Becas de Excelencia only): No income limit. You stand out on at least one point: strong bachelor grades, international experience, leadership and social impact, innovation or entrepreneurship (projects, patents, startups), or a clear career plan for the degree.

How to apply

New students apply at the same time as their admission application, so there is no fixed date. The decision comes after you are admitted and before enrolment closes. Students already enrolled can apply for the Ayudas al Estudio between 3 March and 5 May 2026, with a decision in the last week of September 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

Your odds here are better than at most open scholarships. The university reports that about 73% of applications are approved, and support goes to over 1,500 students each year. Only Comillas postgraduates can apply, so the applicant pool is small. If you meet the income limits (need-based track) or can show one clear strength (excellence track) and apply on time, your prospects are solid.
