About this scholarship
Benefit
You get a discount on your first year's tuition fee at the University of Leeds through two schemes. The International Regional Scholarship is an automatic reduction of about 5,700 EUR (GBP 5,000) for students from certain countries. The International Excellence Scholarship is a competitive award worth about 3,400 EUR, 6,900 EUR or 18,300 EUR (GBP 3,000, GBP 6,000 or GBP 16,000), with up to 500 awards available. You can combine the two, as long as together they do not cover more than 100% of your tuition. Both apply only to your first year and only to your tuition fee, not to rent or living costs.
Eligibility
- Degree level: You are starting the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds in September 2026 and hold a conditional or unconditional offer.
- Fee status: You are classed as an international fee-paying student and pay at least part of your fees yourself.
- Nationality (Regional Scholarship): You hold a passport from Canada, Egypt, an EU country, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey or the USA. Living there without the passport does not count.
- Merit (Excellence Scholarship): You have outstanding school results and can show strong extracurricular activities, such as work experience, volunteering or awards.
- Excluded courses: Not available for Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) or Dental Surgery (BChD). The Regional Scholarship also excludes the 2-year Graduate Law (LLB).
How to apply
You do not apply for the Regional Scholarship. If you qualify, you are told shortly after you get your course offer. For the Excellence Scholarship, you fill in an online form (about 15 minutes) after you have an offer. It includes a motivation statement of up to 100 words. The deadline is Monday 4 May, 17:00 BST. Apply by 31 March for a result by 15 May, or by 4 May for a result by 29 May.
How realistic are your chances?
The Regional Scholarship is not a contest. If you hold a passport from an eligible country and meet the basic conditions, you get it automatically. The Excellence Scholarship is competitive, but with up to 500 awards and rolling assessment your prospects are decent if you have strong grades and a well-written statement. Applying before 31 March gives you the earliest decision.
