About this scholarship

IATL Project Support

You get a one-off grant of up to about 1,750 EUR (£1,500) to run your own research project at the University of Warwick. The money is paid as a single lump sum into your student account, not as a monthly payment. You can use it to cover project costs and to pay team members, either as a contribution to living costs or at an hourly rate of about 18 EUR (£15.77). The scheme is run by the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL). It is meant to help you design and lead real research, not coursework.

Who can apply

  • University: You study at the University of Warwick.
  • Level: Open to all levels, from undergraduate to PhD. PhD students count as students here, even if they also do paid teaching.
  • Student-led: You run the project yourself, and undergraduates must be on the team. If you lead as a postgraduate, you name or later recruit at least one undergraduate.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects, but your project must fit at least one set theme, such as access to undergraduate research, building research into the curriculum, or interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Timing: The project must finish within 3 months of the lead applicant graduating.
  • Not for assessment: The work cannot count towards any exam or graded assignment.

How to apply

You apply through IATL's online form. You can book a 15-minute consultation with them beforehand. You may submit only one application per round, as lead or co-lead. All required approvals, including ethics approval if your research needs it, must be in place before the deadline. The 2025/26 round has closed; dates for 2026/27 are not yet announced.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is narrow: you must be at Warwick, run your own research, involve undergraduates, and match one of the set themes. That keeps the pool of eligible applicants small. If your project clearly fits those conditions and you line up your approvals early, your prospects are good. Booking the pre-application consultation helps you shape a proposal that meets the rules.
