About this scholarship
What you get
Erasmus Out lets you spend 2 to 12 months abroad. You can study at a partner university in Europe or do an internship at a company, lab or research centre. You receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant. The European Commission and the national Erasmus+ agency set the exact amount each year, and it depends on the country you go to. The grant covers the extra cost of living abroad, not your full expenses. During your semester away, Universidade Portucalense (UPT) also cuts your tuition by 25% of the fee for 30 ECTS. Extra top-ups exist if you travel green, if you have a disability, or if you already receive social support. Short Blended Intensive Programmes (a mix of on-site and online study with several partner universities) pay 70 EUR per day, up to 490 EUR. You can go to any EU country, plus North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Serbia.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at UPT, from bachelor up to doctorate level.
- Type of stay: A study period at a partner university, or an internship abroad. Recent graduates can still apply for an internship up to one year after finishing.
- Credits (study stays): You have completed at least 29 ECTS in your current programme. First-semester bachelor students cannot apply for a study stay.
- Timing: If you are in your first year of a master's or doctorate, you can only apply for the second semester.
- Language: You have at least B2 level in the teaching language of the host, usually English.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects offered at UPT.
How to apply
You apply online through UPT's International Relations Office (GRI). You list up to 10 preferred host institutions in order, and you must attend the yearly information session. The main deadline is around the end of April. If places remain, a second round runs until the end of October for the second semester. The office ranks applicants mainly by study level, credits completed and grades. The money is not guaranteed: it depends on your ranking and the places available.
How realistic are your chances?
This is only open to UPT students, so you compete against your own classmates rather than a national field. That keeps the pool small. Places and grants are limited and awarded by ranking, so strong grades and an on-track study record help most. Apply in the April round rather than waiting for leftover second-round places.
