About this scholarship

What the Common Good Bursary gives you

You get a mix of cash and a tuition fee cut. It is worth about EUR 18,300 (£15,790) over a four-year degree, or about EUR 20,600 (£17,790) over a five-year degree. It comes in two parts. First, cash paid straight to you: about EUR 2,320 (£2,000) per year for the first three years of a four-year course (around EUR 7,000 in total), or the first four years of a five-year course (around EUR 9,300 in total). Second, in your final year the university waives your tuition fees, worth about EUR 11,300 (£9,790). You never pay any of it back. It comes from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in Glasgow, Scotland.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are starting a full-time bachelor's degree at GCU.
  • Where you study: You study at GCU in Glasgow. If you come from Ireland or another UK nation, this counts as studying abroad.
  • Where you come from: You are from England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • How you pay your fees: You fund your tuition through a student loan (SAAS, Student Finance England, Northern Ireland or Wales), or you pay them yourself.
  • Financial need: None required. Every qualifying student from these regions gets it.

How to apply

There is no application form. The bursary goes automatically to every student who meets the criteria. To receive the cash after you enrol, upload your bank details in the GCU student portal and confirm them through the verification email. The portal does not accept Irish bank accounts, so if you have one, give a UK account instead.

How realistic are your chances?

If you are a full-time undergraduate starting at GCU from England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Ireland, you get this automatically. There is no competition, no grades hurdle and no means test. Your chances come down entirely to meeting the residence and enrolment criteria. Just upload and verify your bank details so the payments can reach you.
