Lincoln Bishop Bursary

What you get

You get a yearly grant of roughly EUR 700 to EUR 4,150 (£600 to £3,600) while you study full time at Lincoln Bishop University. It is a bursary, so you never pay it back, and it comes on top of any government student loans or grants. The exact amount depends on which support group you fall into and whether you study a Bachelor's degree (BA Hons) or a shorter foundation degree (FdA):

• Care leavers (grew up in care): about EUR 4,150 (£3,600) a year, for both degree types. This is meant to replace a maintenance loan.
• Student parents, student carers, estranged students: about EUR 1,150 (£1,000) for a BA, or EUR 870 (£750) for a foundation degree. "Estranged" means you are permanently cut off from your parents.
• Mature students (21 or older at the start) and students from low-participation areas (POLARQ1): about EUR 920 (£800) for a BA, or EUR 690 (£600) for a foundation degree. POLARQ1 means you come from an area where very few people go to university.

If more than one group fits you, you get only one bursary, always the highest amount. It is paid in three parts each year: 25% in November, 25% in January, and 50% in April. The university runs this scheme.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled full time in an undergraduate course at Lincoln Bishop University. It must start on or after 1 September 2026, with tuition fees of at least £6,525.
• Financial need: Your household income is £30,000 (about EUR 34,500) or less, as assessed by a funding body such as Student Finance England.
• Your situation: You fit one of the groups above: a parent, a carer, a care leaver, an estranged student, a mature student, or someone from a low-participation area.
• Nationality: Open to UK students and students from other EU countries.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

For the standard awards you do not fill in a separate bursary form. Instead, apply for your loan or grant through Student Finance England (or the Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish equivalent) and tick the box that lets them share your income details with the university. Applications for 2026/27 open from February 2026, and you usually hear whether you got the bursary in October. If you are a student parent, carer, care leaver or estranged student, you also send proof of your situation to the university.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive contest. It is an automatic entitlement. If you study full time at Lincoln Bishop, your household income is £30,000 or less, and you belong to one of the listed groups, you receive the bursary.
