About this scholarship

What you get

Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland offers several scholarships for its taught master's programmes (MSc, MProf, MRes), plus government loans. The amount depends on where you come from:

  • rUK Scholarship: about EUR 1,150 (GBP 1,000), a one-off payment for new students from England, Wales or Northern Ireland, paid in January.
  • International Scholarship: up to about EUR 3,450 per year (GBP 3,000), for up to four years, for new international students. It is taken off your tuition fees.
  • GREAT Scholarship September 2026: about EUR 11,500 (GBP 10,000) off your fees, for students from Mexico, Kenya or Thailand.
  • Alumni discount: 20% off tuition fees if you already graduated from Abertay and pay your own way (not for international fee-status students).
  • Takahashi & Howat Memorial Scholarship: about EUR 1,700 (JPY 300,000) each, two per year, for Japanese master's students.

Scottish students can borrow tuition and living-cost funding from SAAS. Students from England, Wales or Northern Ireland can take out a postgraduate loan through their national student finance body.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are starting a taught postgraduate degree (MSc, MProf or MRes) at Abertay.
  • Where you study: You study on the Dundee campus. The rUK and GREAT scholarships do not cover online courses.
  • Status: You are a new student. Students already enrolled do not qualify for the university scholarships.
  • Where you come from: Each award targets a specific group: students from the rest of the UK, international or EU students, or applicants living in Mexico, Kenya or Thailand.
  • Grades: For the International and GREAT scholarships you need a UK 2:1 bachelor's or equivalent (about 60% or better).
  • Field of study: Open to all taught postgraduate subjects.

How to apply

For the rUK and International scholarships there is no separate form. You are assessed automatically when you apply to study, and told the result by email after your offer. For the GREAT Scholarship, send a 250-word statement with your student ID by 20 March 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

The rUK and International scholarships are automatic top-ups tied to fee status and grades. If you fit the group and meet the entry marks, you receive them without competing for a limited number of places. The GREAT Scholarship is far tighter, only for residents of three countries and worth much more, so expect real competition and apply well before the March deadline.
