Benefit

You get a monthly payment between 150 and 540 EUR, worked out from your situation and income, plus one-to-one support from a personal adviser. The payment runs for 3 months at a time and can be renewed in 3-month steps, up to 12 months in total. How much you get depends on how you live: up to 540 EUR if you live alone or as a couple, up to 324 EUR if you live with your parents (or someone legally obliged to support you), and up to 162 EUR if you live in a care or child-protection facility. Your adviser also helps you sort out housing, transport and health, and points you towards a job, a course or national support schemes. The scheme is run by the Loire-Atlantique department to keep young people out of poverty.

Eligibility

• Age: You are 18 to 24 years old. At 25 and over, the national RSA benefit applies instead.
• Where you live: You have lived in the Loire-Atlantique department for more than a year.
• Nationality: You are French, or you legally reside in France.
• Financial need: You have little or no income, for example after a family breakdown, low parental income or a setback in your life.
• Study or work: You can apply whether or not you study. The scheme is built for young people not covered by student grants or other national schemes.
• No better option: Your adviser first checks that no other, more suitable scheme fits your situation.

How to apply

Go to a local youth employment office (mission locale, a public service that helps young people find work and support) in your area, or speak to a social worker. A counsellor helps you put your file together, opens your rights and arranges the payment. There is no fixed application deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a needs-based safety net, not a competitive scholarship. If you are 18 to 24, have lived in Loire-Atlantique for over a year and genuinely lack income, you are likely eligible. More than 1,100 young people were helped between 2022 and 2024, so there is no small quota to fight over. Your main task is to document your situation with the counsellor, not to outshine other applicants.
