What the STS Aristotle studentship covers

This scholarship covers your full tuition fees at the UK-fee level for one year of Master’s study at University College London (UCL). If you are an international student who would normally be required to pay the higher international student fees, the scholarship will nevertheless only cover the amount of the UK student fees, and you will need to cover the difference yourself. The funds will be paid directly to UCL. The Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) at UCL awards up to one scholarship each year to high-achieving students who require financial support. There is no living expenses allowance and no support towards rent.

Who can apply

• Your programme: You are applying for a face-to-face Master’s programme, a diploma or a certificate in the STS department at UCL, for example the MSc in ‘History and Philosophy of Science’, the MSc in ‘Science, Technology and Society’ or the MSc in ‘Science Communication’.
• Admission first: You have already been offered a place on one of these degree programmes. You cannot apply for the scholarship until this has been finalised.
• Financial need: You need financial support to fund your studies.
• Academic strength: You can demonstrate your considerable academic potential and explain what contribution you would make to life within the department.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Once you have received your offer of admission, please complete the separate application form for the Aristotle Scholarship and send it to the MSc Admissions Team. The application deadline is 30 July. Only successful applicants will be notified by the end of August.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded each year, and it goes to the best applicant from among those students already admitted to the STS department. The competition is therefore fierce. Although the pool of applicants is limited to other STS applicants rather than the entire university, you must still stand out from the rest in terms of both your academic potential and your financial need. A clear, well-reasoned presentation of both aspects will give you the best chance of success.
