African Graduate Scholarship at UCL

You will receive a comprehensive package for a one-year course in MSc Global Health and Development at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom, running from September to September. The scholarship covers your tuition fees, your accommodation in London and part of your living costs. This is a one-off scholarship from the UCL Institute for Global Health, jointly funded by the CP Charitable Trust and the International Student House. Your flights to and from the UK are not included, so you will need to pay for these yourself.

Who can apply

• Nationality and residence: You are a national of an African country and, at the time of applying, are permanently resident in an African country.
• Course: You have already been offered an unconditional place on the full-time MSc programme in ‘Global Health and Development’ at UCL, or are due to receive one shortly. ‘Unconditional’ means that your place has been confirmed and there are no further conditions to be met.
• Grades and background: You have an outstanding academic record and the potential to pursue a career in global health research, policy or practice.
• Financial need: Without this support, you wouldn’t be able to study at UCL.
• Travel funds: You can provide evidence that you have sufficient funds to pay for your flights to and from the United Kingdom.

How to apply

First, secure your unconditional offer of a place on the ‘Global Health and Development’ Master’s programme. Then complete the scholarship application form and email it to the Institute for Global Health. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the application deadline is 29 May 2026, 17:00 BST. Selection is based on your academic merit and financial need, which will be assessed on the basis of your written application.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. It is restricted to African nationals wishing to undertake a specific Master’s programme at UCL, and you must already have an unconditional offer of admission, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate both academic excellence and genuine financial need, your chances are good. As this is a single, highly endowed scholarship at a prestigious university, a compelling, well-substantiated case is crucial.
