Prémio Ciências Sociais e Humanas para a Inclusão

You receive 5,000 EUR for a winning academic or research work in the social sciences and humanities that helps include people with disabilities. One prize of 5,000 EUR is awarded per category, and the awarding body or its partners may raise this amount. Each category can also give up to two honourable mentions, which may or may not carry a cash sum depending on the partners in each edition. All recognised works receive a certificate. The prize comes from the Instituto para os Direitos das Pessoas com Deficiência (IDiPD), the Portuguese public body for the rights of people with disabilities. It is awarded every two years, and the next edition takes place in 2027.

Who can apply

• Type of work: You enter in one of two categories. Category A is for master's dissertations and doctoral theses. Category B is for research projects, such as articles, studies or working papers.
• Where you studied (any nationality): You did the work at a Portuguese higher education institution, or at a foreign one with an academic link to a university or polytechnic based in Portugal.
• Where you studied (Portuguese nationals): If you are Portuguese, you can also enter with work done at any foreign higher education institution, even without a link to a Portuguese university.
• Research institutions: You can also enter work produced at a national research and development institution.
• Field: The work must be in the social sciences and humanities and help include people with disabilities.
• Timing (Category A): An academic jury examined and approved your dissertation or thesis in the current edition year or the one immediately before.
• Authorship (Category B): You are the author or co-author, and the work is published in a scientific journal, a book, a technical report or a recognised academic repository.
• Who cannot apply: Staff of the institute running the prize cannot enter.

How to apply

You apply through the online form on the institute's website. You submit a direct link to your full work, a summary in Portuguese (10,000 to 15,000 characters), a statement of motivation and, for theses and dissertations, proof of academic assessment. The deadline for the 2025 edition is 15 September 2025. A jury reviews the entries, emails all applicants the results, and the prize is handed over at a public ceremony.
