School of Arts of Porto - ESAP (Porto/Portugal) - Merit Award of the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES)

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant. This covers the academic year in which you were awarded it. The grant recognises outstanding academic achievement and is not means-tested. It is funded entirely by the Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior (DGES), the Portuguese government agency responsible for higher education. It is open to students at all Portuguese universities and higher education institutions, including the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP).

Eligibility

• Level: You are studying for a bachelor’s degree (Licenciatura), an integrated master’s degree or a master’s degree at a Portuguese higher education institution.
• Enrolment: You were enrolled in the academic year immediately preceding the one for which the grant is awarded.
• Results: In that year you passed all your course units, worth 60 ECTS credits in total.
• Grades: Your average score across all units was at least ‘Very good’, which corresponds to 16 out of 20.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Financial need: Not required. The award does not depend on your or your family's income.

How to apply

No application is required. Each year, your university reviews your academic records and nominates eligible students in accordance with the DGES’s public announcement. The award is given to the student with the highest degree average in each year group of each degree programme. In the event of a tie, a more detailed comparison of marks will be carried out, and ESAP may, as a final step, conduct an interview.
