Faro Municipality - Higher Education Scholarship for students living in Faro

Scholarship from the Municipality of Faro

You will receive a monthly payment of two fifths (2/5) of the Portuguese national minimum wage, which is paid for 10 months during the academic year. The exact amount in euros is based on the current minimum wage and is therefore not fixed. The funding comes from Faro City Council (Câmara Municipal de Faro) and is intended to support students who are unable to finance their studies from their own resources. Each year, up to 16 grants are awarded to residents of the Faro region, with a further 2 awarded to students from Portuguese-speaking countries or Faro’s twin towns.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Portuguese national. A number of places are reserved for students from Portuguese-speaking countries or from Faro’s twin towns.
• Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Faro (Concelho de Faro) for more than five years.
• Enrolment: You are enrolled at a secondary school or on a higher education course for the academic year for which you are applying.
• Field of study: Any subject is accepted.
• Grades: Last year, you achieved at least 4 if you are in class 9, or an average of at least 13 marks if you are a secondary school pupil or a university student. You passed all your subjects.
• Financial need: Your household’s monthly per capita income does not exceed the statutory minimum wage in force at the start of the year.
• No double funding: You are not currently receiving a similar scholarship or grant from any other organisation for the same academic year.

How to apply

You can submit the application form and your supporting documents to the Divisão de Educação at Faro City Council, or complete the form online via the council’s digital portal (Balcão Digital). The application deadline is usually in November, with the deadline falling at the end of the month. The exact dates are announced each year.
