About this scholarship

Aljustrel higher education scholarship

From October to July, you will receive a monthly grant of 10 months to cover the costs of your studies. The money comes from the municipality of Aljustrel (Câmara Municipal de Aljustrel), your local authority in southern Portugal. The municipality determines the number of grants and their amounts each year based on the applications received, so no fixed amount is announced in advance.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Aljustrel for at least one year.
  • Financial need: Your monthly per capita income does not exceed the Portuguese Social Assistance Index (IAS), the government’s benchmark for social assistance thresholds.
  • Level of study: You are enrolled on a ‘Licenciatura’ or ‘Bacharelato’ degree programme at a recognised higher education institution, such as a university, a university of applied sciences or a higher education college, or you intend to enrol on such a programme. This includes public, private and cooperative institutions.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Enrolment: You are a full-time student and do not have a paid job.
  • Grades: You passed the previous academic year with good results.
  • No equivalent degree: You do not yet hold a qualification at the same level in the degree programme you wish to study.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the “Portal do Munícipe de Aljustrel”, the municipality’s citizens’ portal, under the “Educação” section. You must first create an account. The application period runs from 1 October to 31 October each year. You may extend the scholarship for a further year under the same conditions as for an initial application.
