About this scholarship

Erasmus Out at Universidade Portucalense (UPT)

You get a monthly Erasmus+ grant to study or do an internship in Europe for 2 to 12 months. Erasmus+ is the EU's exchange programme. The exact amount is set each year by the European Commission and the Portuguese Erasmus+ agency. It depends on the country you go to and how long you stay. The grant covers the extra costs of living abroad, not your whole budget. On top of the grant, UPT cuts your tuition by 25% of the fee for 30 ECTS during your exchange semester. You can also claim extra support: a top-up for travelling by green transport, inclusion support if you have a recognised disability, and an extra grant if you already receive a Portuguese state social scholarship. The programme is run by UPT's International Relations Office (Gabinete de Relações Internacionais, GRI).

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are currently enrolled at the UPT, from Bachelor’s (Licenciatura) to PhD level.
  • Field of study: Every subject taught at UPT.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Study progress: You have earned at least 29 ECTS credits in your current degree programme. First-year and first-semester Bachelor’s students are not eligible to apply.
  • Master and doctorate first year: If you are in your first year of study, you can only take part in the second semester.
  • Recent graduates: You can also apply for an internship up to one year after completing your degree.
  • Language: You must have at least level B2 in the host country’s language of instruction (usually English). You may be required to provide proof of this.

How to apply

You apply online via the UPT’s Office for International Relations and list up to 10 partner universities in order of preference. The main deadline is at the end of April for an exchange in the first semester or for the whole year. Provided there are still places available, there is a second application window until the end of October for the second semester. Applicants are then ranked according to their academic performance: the main factors taken into account are your stage of study, the modules you still need to complete, the ECTS credits earned per year and your grade point average.
