About this scholarship

What you get

You get a monthly grant to study or do an internship abroad for 2 to 12 months, up to 12 months per study cycle (Bachelor, Master or PhD). The money helps cover your extra costs abroad, such as accommodation, food, local travel and insurance. It is not full funding. The amount is set each year by the Portuguese national Erasmus+ agency and depends on your destination country. As a guide, placements in non-European partner countries for 2025/2026 were funded at around 3,620 to 3,860 EUR for the whole stay. ISCTE - Instituto Universitario de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL) pays 70 to 100% of the total up front. If you have a disability or hold an ISCTE-IUL social-services grant, you get an extra 100 or 150 EUR per month. A study stay usually lasts one semester (about 4 months) or a full year (about 9 months). Internships run 2 to 12 months.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at ISCTE-IUL in Lisbon in a Bachelor, Master or PhD programme.
  • How far you are: Bachelor students can go from the 2nd year; Master and PhD students from the 2nd semester of their 1st year.
  • Credits done: You have completed at least 18 ECTS credits at ISCTE-IUL.
  • Recent graduates: You can apply for an internship if you applied in your final year and the placement happens within 12 months of graduating.
  • Where you go: You go to another European programme country (EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or candidate countries such as North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey) or a partner country outside Europe. Any country works except your home or residence country.
  • Field of study: All subjects taught at ISCTE-IUL are eligible.

How to apply

You apply online through the Fenix+ system within the published application windows. For a study stay you can name up to 5 partner universities. Internship applications stay open all year, and you find your own host (a company, university or lab abroad). Applicants are ranked by a formula that gives priority to those who have not been abroad before and who are further along in their studies. The ranking is published about 15 days after the deadline.
