University of Porto (Porto/Portugal) - Faculty of Humanities Merit Award

Benefit

You will receive a one-off cash bonus of five times Portugal's monthly minimum wage, based on the rate applicable at the start of the academic year. For 2025, this amount totals approximately 4,350 EUR, which will be paid in a single bank transfer. The bonus recognises a year’s achievements and is not a recurring monthly allowance. The bonus is awarded to the top-performing students at the Faculty of Arts (Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, FLUP) of the University of Porto. It is paid out by the Portuguese Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).

Eligibility

• University: You are enrolled at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLUP) at the University of Porto.
• Degree level: You are studying on a Bachelor’s, integrated Master’s or Master’s degree programme. You can also apply if you have recently completed one of these programmes.
• Grades: You have top marks. The faculty regulations require a grade point average of at least 15.5 out of 20 over a three-year period. The university-wide regulations stipulate that you must pass all 60 ECTS credits for your academic year with an average of at least 16 out of 20.
• Clean record: You’ve never had to repeat a school year.
• Field of study: Any subject taught in the Faculty of Humanities.

How to apply

Applications are made as part of an annual selection process conducted by the FLUP’s Pedagogical Council. You may support your application with your CV, published articles or conference papers, as well as evidence of your academic or social engagement. The results are published on the FLUP website every year by 10 March.
