Polytechnic Institute of Viseu - IPV Merit Awards

IPV Merit Awards

You receive a one-off annual payment worth five times the Portuguese national minimum monthly wage. This came to about 3,800 EUR in 2023/2024 and 4,100 EUR in 2024/2025. The exact figure follows the minimum wage in force at the start of the academic year in which you win the award. The money comes from the student support office of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV), now the Universidade Politécnica de Viseu. It goes to students with top grades, and your family income plays no part.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV) in Viseu, Portugal.
• Degree level: You are enrolled in a bachelor's degree (licenciatura), an integrated master's, a master's, or a higher professional specialisation course (CTeSP).
• Grades: In the previous academic year you passed every course of your year and reached a weighted average of at least 16 out of 20.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects taught at the IPV.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Financial need: None required. The award depends only on your results.

How to apply

You hand in the official form (Modelo A) to the academic services of your school before the deadline. The IPV sets and announces this deadline each year. A committee checks the grades, ranks the candidates and publishes the final list of winners. Winners receive the award and a merit diploma at a public ceremony. If grades tie, the better average from earlier years decides.

How realistic are your chances?

The number of awards is limited to roughly one scholarship per 500 enrolled students, shared across the schools, with each school getting at least one.
