Anglo-Danish Society Scholarship

You will receive a one-off grant of about 2,900 EUR (£2,500) for one academic year of postgraduate study, which will be paid in two instalments from the start of your academic year. This is intended to supplement your other sources of funding and is not a full scholarship; you will therefore need a realistic financial plan to cover the remaining costs. The Anglo-Danish Society awards this grant to foster academic links between Denmark and the United Kingdom.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are starting a postgraduate course or research work as part of a higher degree, such as a Master’s degree, an MPhil or a PhD.
• Where you go: You are a Danish university graduate moving to the UK, or a British university graduate moving to Denmark. You will need a first-cycle degree from a university in your home country.
• Field of study: Any subject. To date, prizes have been awarded in the fields of music, architecture, engineering, medicine, the visual arts and international relations.
• Personal circumstances: There are no other personal factors influencing the decision.
• Preferred projects: You will be awarded more points if your project makes use of academic links between Denmark and the UK, contributes to cultural exchange between the two countries, or relates to current issues in either country. It is also an advantage if you clearly explain why the higher education institution you have chosen is a good fit for your field of study.

How to apply

Please apply via the online form. Please attach a financial plan for the academic year and two signed letters of reference in English. The application deadline is 1 March. You do not need to have a confirmed place at university at the time of application, but you should have one shortly afterwards. Selection is based on your written application; there will be no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is quite specific: you must commute between Denmark and the UK for postgraduate study, which means the pool of applicants remains small. As it supplements rather than fully funds your studies, a clear financial plan and a well-reasoned explanation of your choice of university are just as important as your grades. If you meet the criteria for the Danish-British exchange programme and present your application convincingly in clear, easy-to-understand English, your chances are good.
