General information on this scholarship

Institution:
Durham University
Name:
University College Choral Scholarships

General Description

The Durham University College Choral Scholarships are offered by the Durham University and the Chapter of Durham Cathedral. The Choral Scholarships are worth a minimum of £1540 in the first year, £1840 in the second year and £2150 for third and subsequent years.

Requirements

Applicants must be male students registered at Durham University; they will be required to pass an audition as part of the scholarship´s selection process. It is essential that candidates should be academically equipped to follow their chosen course of study at Durham, and those who seem unlikely to meet the Colleges’ academic requirements for admission will not be accepted as candidates for a Choral Scholarship. It is generally not possible to combine the duties of a Choral Scholar with certain academic subjects (the Sciences, and those Social Sciences which involve laboratory work). Successful candidates will be required to sign a declaration under the terms of the Children Act 1989 before the Scholarship takes effect and before joining the choir. They will also be required to obtain enhanced Criminal Records Bureau clearance through the Chapter’s normal procedures. Once they are awarded the scholarship, Choral Scholars are required to keep Choir terms and to attend certain Cathedral activities, practices and events.
