About this scholarship
General Description
The John and Pat Hume Research Scholarships are offered through the National University of Ireland to incoming full-time PhD students. The scholarship is intended to strengthen graduate research at the university. It consists of two award amounts. The first is a maintenance sum of €5,000 for four years along with payment of tuition fees. The second is maintenance sum of €5,000 for four years along with payment of tuition fees and an additional amount of €3,000 for approved university activities.
Requirements
Students from any nationality can apply for the scholarship. Applicants must be exempt from paying income tax. They cannot have started any research activities at NUI Maynooth as only new applicants are taken into consideration. Applicants must meet strict academic requirements. This includes having a research Master’s degree, an upper second class honours in Engineering degree with first class in their research project, a first class honours degree, a first class taught master’s degree, a first in master’s thesis with second class honours taught master’s degree, or a first in a selected discipline with a second class honours degree. Satisfactory academic progress and performance are taken into consideration to evaluate continued support of existing students on the programme.
