About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive up to about 640 EUR per month (up to 16,000 CZK) to cover your PhD scholarship and living costs in Prague. The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) will pay this amount for up to 12 months. If your academic performance is outstanding, CTU may extend the funding for the full duration of your PhD programme. Half of the funding comes from the university’s central fund, and the other half from your faculty.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are a PhD student at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU).
  • Language: Your PhD programme is taught in English.
  • Field of study: Every subject taught at CTU, a technical university (engineering, computer science, natural sciences and related disciplines).
  • Nationality: Any country, provided you are not a Czech student.
  • Research ability: You are able to carry out independent academic work.
  • Not eligible: Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus or exchange students at CTU, as well as anyone already receiving a government or other scholarship.

How to apply

First, obtain approval from your faculty. You should then submit the application form to the University’s Department of International Relations via your faculty’s International Office. The final decision is made by a Vice-Chancellor on the basis of a recommendation from a committee of Associate Deans.

How realistic are your chances?

You can only apply if you are already enrolled as an English-speaking PhD student at CTU; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small, and you will not be competing against a large number of applicants. If you meet these requirements and can demonstrate genuine research achievements, your prospects are good. Funding will only continue for as long as you meet the academic requirements, which include the publication of a peer-reviewed article.
