About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a grant of at least 2,000 DKK (about 270 EUR) towards your education or professional development. The fund distributes a total of around 12,000 DKK (about 1,600 EUR) annually amongst a small number of recipients, meaning that only a handful of grants are awarded in each round. The money is paid out once a year in June. It comes from ‘Familien Nyholms Hjælpelegat’, a small Danish family foundation that supports the descendants of their ancestor Jochum Nielsen.

Eligibility

  • Family link: You are a descendant of Jochum Nielsen (c. 1675–1729), whether by blood or by marriage. This is the most important requirement.
  • Use of the money: It is spent on education or vocational training.
  • Field of study: All subjects are open.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Grades: Your academic performance at school or university will be taken into account in the decision.
  • Age: Applicants of all ages are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to younger applicants.

How to apply

Please send a short letter of motivation by email to the fund administrator. Please state ‘Slægtslegat’ in the subject line. You can apply at any time of the year; the application deadline is 15 May. You will usually receive a response around two months after your application has been received.
