About this scholarship

DUO-Korea Fellowship

You will receive 4,000 EUR for a semester (approx. 4 months) of exchange study in South Korea. This scholarship (a one-off study grant) can be used towards tuition fees, living costs and travel expenses. The programme operates on the tandem principle: one European and one Korean student swap places at the same time. Each pair receives a total of 8,000 EUR, i.e. 4,000 EUR per person. DUO-Korea was launched in 2001 and is funded by the South Korean Ministry of Education to promote student exchanges between Korea and 30 European countries.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and are currently enrolled at a higher education institution in one of the 30 European ASEM countries (the EU 27, as well as Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).
  • Field of study: All subjects can apply.
  • The tandem partner: Your university must have a cooperation agreement with a Korean university. Each institution sends one student and hosts one in return. You cannot apply on your own; the exchange programme only works on a fixed pair basis.
  • Credits: You must earn at least 20 ECTS credits during the exchange. Language or sports courses do not count towards this requirement.
  • Timing: You must remain enrolled from the time of application until the start of the exchange, and must not have started the exchange before the application period begins.
  • No double funding: You may not receive any further government or institutional funding for the same stay, for example under the Erasmus+ programme or a scholarship from the Korean Government.

How to apply

You do not apply yourself. Please contact your university’s International Relations Office. The Korean partner university will then submit the application for both students via the ASEM-DUO online portal. The application deadline is 20 May, and a Korean selection committee will make a decision by June. Priority is given to brand-new exchange partnerships that have not yet received funding.
