Access to Sheffield Scholarships

You get about 1,150 EUR (£1,000) for every year of your course, paid in two instalments of £500. On top of that comes a one-off starter payment of about 690 EUR (£600) to help with moving to university, paid before you arrive. The University of Sheffield awards over 250 of these each year, funded by donations from alumni, organisations and companies. Placement years, years studying abroad and repeated years are not funded.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You have an offer for a full-time undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield starting in September 2026.
• Level: This is your first undergraduate course.
• Fee status: You pay the UK home rate of fees. International students cannot apply.
• Household income: Your household income is 40,000 GBP or less (about 46,000 EUR), confirmed by Student Finance England or an equivalent UK funding agency.
• Disadvantage: You have completed a University of Sheffield Access to Sheffield programme or a Sutton Trust Summer School, OR you meet at least one further condition, such as living in a disadvantaged area, having had free school meals, being a care leaver, being estranged from your family, being a carer, being a parent of a child under 18, or being a forced migrant.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

You apply through the university's online form. First accept your Sheffield offer as your firm or insurance choice. A panel of academic and administrative staff then reviews applications. If you completed an Access to Sheffield programme or Sutton Trust Summer School and meet the criteria, you get the scholarship automatically.

How realistic are your chances?

With over 250 awards each year and eligibility limited to lower-income UK students who face specific disadvantages, the pool is narrower than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet the income limit and at least one of the disadvantage conditions, your prospects are good. If you finished an Access to Sheffield programme or Sutton Trust Summer School and meet the criteria, you are funded automatically.
