About this grant / loan

Benefit

You get up to 20% off your postgraduate tuition fees if you already graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University. If you graduated from the University of Manchester, you get up to 10% off. This is a discount on your tuition fee, not a cash payment, and it applies to courses starting in the 2026/27 academic year. You cannot combine it with other discounts or scholarships. The one exception is a Manchester Met Sports Scholarship: that is deducted first, then this discount applies to the rest.

Who can apply

  • Your first degree: You hold a bachelor's degree, a foundation degree, an integrated masters, a taught masters, a PGCE or a Graduate Diploma in Law from Manchester Metropolitan University or the University of Manchester (including its predecessors, the Victoria University of Manchester and UMIST).
  • Your new course: You are starting a taught postgraduate course at Manchester Metropolitan University. Examples: a taught masters (MA, MSc, LLM, MArch), a PG Diploma or a PG Certificate.
  • Courses that do not count: Research degrees (PhD, MPhil, MRes), PGCE courses, integrated undergraduate masters (MEng, MChem), and PGCert Architecture and Contemporary Practice.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Sponsored students: You still qualify if an employer or embassy pays your fees, as long as you meet the criteria above.

How to apply

If you graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University after 2009, or from the University of Manchester, the discount applies automatically. You get a confirmation email before your course starts. If you graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University before 2009, contact the university to claim it.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship with limited places. It is an automatic discount for anyone who fits. If you hold an eligible degree from one of the two Manchester universities and enrol on an eligible taught postgraduate course, you receive it. The only thing to check is that your specific course is on the eligible list.
