What the funding covers

This programme funds research projects run by Andalusian universities and research bodies. It is not for individual students or personal scholarships. It covers up to 100% of a project's cost. Depending on the funding line, a project can receive between 50,000 EUR and 833,000 EUR, and projects run for two to three years. The money comes from the Andalusian regional government (Junta de Andalucia), with part co-financed by EU regional funds (FEDER). It splits into three lines:

• Line 1 (basic research): theoretical or experimental work with no direct practical aim. Up to 300,000 EUR per project, lasting 30 to 36 months.
• Line 2 (applied research): work aimed at a practical result, such as new products or processes, within Andalusia's S4 priority areas. Between 50,000 EUR and 300,000 EUR per project (up to 200,000 EUR for social sciences and humanities), lasting two years. Total budget for 2026: 25 million EUR.
• Line 3 (International Excellence Campuses): applied research inside Andalusia's excellence campus networks. Between 400,000 EUR and 833,000 EUR per project, lasting up to three years. Total budget: 5 million EUR.

Who can apply

• Type of applicant: This is for institutions, not individuals. Only Andalusian universities, public research bodies, and research or innovation centres, institutes and foundations can apply. They must be registered as agents of the Andalusian Knowledge System (SAC) for the whole funding period.
• Line 3 only: Restricted to the universities coordinating Andalusia's International Excellence Campuses (such as ceiA3, CEI-MAR, Andalucia TECH, CEI BioTic Granada, CEI CamBio and CEI Patrimonio). One coordinated project per campus.
• Lead researcher: Each project is led by a principal investigator who holds a doctorate and is employed by the institution throughout the project. Each researcher may lead only one application per call.
• Fields: Open across science, technology, health, social sciences and humanities. The exact fields depend on the line.
• Activity type: Only non-economic research activities are funded. You cannot combine the grant with other funding for the same purpose.

How to apply

You apply entirely online through the regional government's electronic portal. The lead researcher starts the application, then the institution's legal representative signs and submits it. Each line has its own call with its own window. For 2026, Line 1 ran from 6 April to 18 May, Line 2 from 20 April to 26 May, and Line 3 from 11 February to 3 March. A decision is issued within six months.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant goes to research institutions in Andalusia, not to students, so it is only relevant if you belong to an eligible university or research body. Line 3 is the tightest: only a handful of excellence-campus universities can apply, so the field is very small. Lines 1 and 2 are open to more institutions, and the large total budgets, especially the 25 million EUR for Line 2, fund many projects. That helps well-prepared proposals.
