About this scholarship
Avempace II exchange scholarship
You get a monthly grant to study or teach in another country. The amount depends on your level:
- 1,000 EUR per month for undergraduate exchange (4 to 10 months)
- 1,500 EUR per month for doctoral candidates (6 to 10 months)
- 1,800 EUR per month for post-docs, meaning researchers who already hold a PhD (6 to 10 months)
- 2,500 EUR per month for university staff (1 to 3 months)
The grant also covers your tuition at the host university, plus travel, insurance and visa costs. Avempace II is an Erasmus Mundus exchange programme run by a group of European and Middle Eastern universities and coordinated by the Technical University of Berlin. It links universities in Europe with those in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria.
Who can apply
- Where you go: This is a two-way exchange. Students and staff from Lebanon and Palestine can go to a European partner university. Citizens of an EU country can go to a partner university in the Middle East. You cannot move between two EU countries or between two Middle Eastern universities.
- Level: You are an undergraduate, doctoral candidate, post-doc or university staff member, depending on the exchange type.
- Study so far: If you apply as an undergraduate, you have finished at least one year of study successfully.
- Home university: In most cases you study at, or work for, one of the programme's partner universities.
- Language: You speak the language your courses are taught in well enough to follow them.
- Time spent in the EU (Middle Eastern applicants going to Europe): You have not lived in an EU country for more than 12 months in the last 5 years. This rule does not apply to staff or to refugees.
How to apply
You apply online through the programme's application portal and upload your documents as certified PDF copies. Applicants are ranked against set criteria. You hear whether you were selected after the deadline closes.
