About this scholarship

What Bangor's undergraduate scholarships give you

Bangor University in Wales offers international undergraduate students a reduction in tuition fees through three different scholarships. The International Scholarship is worth at least approximately 4,700 (£4,000) euros per academic year. The Deans Scholarship is worth approximately 7,000 (£6,000) euros per year. The Vice-Chancellor Scholarship, worth around 11,700 (£10,000) euros, is the most generous scholarship; however, it applies only to the first year of study and is not renewable. The two annual scholarships are renewed for each year of a 3- or 4-year degree programme, provided you pass your exams. You may only hold one Bangor scholarship at a time, with the exception of an alumni discount.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are starting a full-time degree programme in Bangor. To be eligible for the Deans’ and Vice-Chancellor’s awards, you must be enrolled on a full 3- or 4-year degree programme; you are therefore not eligible if you join the programme directly in the 2 or 3 academic year.
  • Field of study: All compartments are open.
  • Nationality: Applications are open to students from all countries except the UK. These scholarships are aimed at international students who pay international tuition fees.
  • Study mode: You are studying full-time at Bangor University.
  • Funding: You are funding your studies yourself, either in full or in part. You are not eligible if a third party covers all your costs.
  • Grades (Deans): You have (or are likely to achieve) grades of AAB or higher.
  • Grades plus achievements (Vice-Chancellor): You have top marks, i.e. a grade 1 or equivalent in at least half of your subjects. You can also demonstrate outstanding extracurricular activities, such as voluntary work, sport, artistic pursuits, leadership roles, fundraising, work placements or setting up a business.

How to apply

You do not need to complete a separate form for the international scholarships and the Dean’s scholarships. Every international applicant is automatically considered when applying to Bangor University, and the outcome will be stated in your offer of place. For the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship, you must first be offered a place at Bangor University and then submit a separate application form. The deadlines are 8 December for the January intake and 29 May for the September intake.

How realistic are your chances?

The international scholarship is awarded almost automatically to self-funded international students; so if you meet the basic requirements, your chances are very good. The Dean’s Scholarship is contingent on achieving grades of AAB, which narrows down the pool of applicants. The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship is by far the most difficult to obtain: only one scholarship is awarded per year group, or one per faculty in September. You will need both excellent grades and truly outstanding achievements outside the classroom, and it is important to apply before the deadline, as places are so limited.
